The University of Surrey is one of the UK’s leading professional, scientific and technological universities with a world class research profile and a reputation for excellence in teaching and research. In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 99% of our research was rated as world-leading, internationally excellent, or recognised either nationally or internationally. In proportion to its size, the University of Surrey has the third greatest proportion of its income from research grants and contracts of all the British Universities. A significant proportion of the Universities research grants and contracts come from a range of EU funding sources. At present, the University of Surrey has a portfolio in excess of 90 EU projects, thus we have extensive experience at coordinating and participating in FP initiatives. The Nutritional Sciences Department is rated in the top three in the UK for teaching and research in the field of Human Nutrition. The Nutrition and Bone Health Groupm within the Department, led by Professor Susan Lanham-New, has been researching nutritional aspects of bone health for the last 15 years and has secured more than £4.5M in research income and published approximately 80 peered reviewed papers in internationally peer-reviewed journals.
